Why is it important to regularly clean your gutters ?
Our guttering and drainage systems are very important to our homes as they are responsible for transportation and disposal of the large amounts of water during a downpour so it’s vital to ensure all aspects are fully functional at all times.
Gutter clearing is something that’s not usually on someone’s to do list until it’s visually evident that there’s a problem, for instance plants/weeds growing from the guttering or water cascading over the sides due to blocked Downpipes, however it’s beneficial to you and your home to have the guttering cleared and flushed 1-2 times per year to maintain and ensure correct function and efficiency.
What causes my gutters to get blocked ?
Gutters become congested for a number of reasons most commonly seen is when moss from the roof becomes loose and falls into the guttering or leaves from nearby trees shed and get blown into the runs
Also if there’s any blockages within the system and sitting water within the gutter then algae moss and other forms of foliage can grow as water and sunlight gives life and that’s why it’s common to see a lot of greenery protruding from guttering.
The gutter cleaning process
We firstly hoover out all of your gutter runs and downpipe openings ensuring the bulk of the debris is sucked out leaving only light dust remaining, we then flush the system fully cleaning out and also ensuring the water is running away efficiently, we will also carry out any repairs if needed such as leaky joints and damaged areas, when the Job is complete we will advise on how often you should get this done to maintain a fully functional gutter system depending on your location to trees the style of guttering and how much moss is on the roof above, if moss is a problem you can see our section on roof cleaning if you should require
