Patio Cleaning
Our outdoor hard surface areas are a place where we can relax and spend time with friends and family but all to often years of exposure to the elements can leave that once beautiful pristine surface looking tired, faded and covered in weeds and biomass. Many times we experience clients feeling that they need a new installation at this point but that is certainly not the case as we can totally revitalise and restore to the day it was new with our patio restoration cleans.
Like any of the surfaces we restore, patios come in many different varieties and require different approaches for optimal results. We will assess the surface and it’s requirements, discuss fully with the client and then put a plan in place to restore that original vibrancy back into your outdoor space and make hosting friends and family enjoyable again.
The process
Firstly we will assess the surface to determine the current condition, also what type of paving it is whether it’s a concrete paver or a type of many natural stone pavers such as limestone, sandstone or slate as all have different methods pertaining to achieving the best results, also we will assess the joints between the slabs and
If they are brittle and weak we will discuss repairs and repointing for after the clean.
Most common problems with patios
- Green algae discolouration forming on the surface creating an unsightly look and posing a slip hazard when wet
- Moss growths between slabs causing jointing to become brittle and allowing weeds to pierce through
- Deep black lichen forming all over the surface of the slab which is incredibly difficult to remove
We then select our cleaning Method for the given surface which will either be cold water high pressure with either a pressure washing lance or a rotary flat surface patio cleaner, a high temperature low pressure steam cleaner, or a chemical soft wash solution and in some cases a combination of all three if needed.
If repairs or repointing has been agreed we will then carry them out leaving a fully restored clean vibrant patio for you to enjoy.
You may also want to opt for sealing to give additional protection to improve looks and increase longevity of the patio if this is something you would like more information on please see our section on sealing.
Re-Pointing
When considering having your patio or brickwork cleaned it’s important to take note of the current condition of the pointing between the slabs or bricks, in most cases on older patios it’s often brittle loose or sometimes worn away and replaced by moss, we would always advise in this case to opt for new pointing or at least repairs to the weakened areas, if you was to opt for replacing we would blast out all of the existing loose pointing when pressure washing the surface and then repoint with either a resin based jointing compound that comes in many colours you will see that we have highlighted this in one of our photos on this section
Or Alternatively if desired we would repoint in a sand and cement mix either way your freshly cleaned hard surface will have solid new joints which will protect from weed growth as well as complimenting the freshly cleaned slab or brick
